Configuration Management

Having worked in and after having seen many projects I gathered some knowledge on Java Projects ( but even though now I always consider there's much more to learn), so I finally have some time to start to share some knowledge with you on the matter. I will try to lay down the topics in a logical sequence, according to my current point of view. So to start I'll pick up configuration management, since this should be the starting point to every Java project (or any other language you may choose). It will be a kind of hands-on and I will use as much open source software as possible. I'll cite sources I have found along the way.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://brushingbits.blogspot.com/2010/12/in-beginning-there-was-configuration.html' title='In the beginning there was ... If you're reading this, yes, I have a blog now ! :).

This name "brushing bits" refers to a common joke in Brazil about the IT crew: usually people say of the IT professionals, when they really master their field (programming, networking, database management, whatever) that they "brush the bit" something like "polish the bit". I do my best trying to "brush the bit" everyday at the job, I'll try to do the same here. It's going to be like a journey, along which I'll register part of what I know about IT , and part of I discover in my off hours research.

In time: Since english it's not my native language, please be patient about any mistake. The same is valid for french, a third language I'm learning, and one in which I'll try to blog sooner or later. BTW, as you know, my native language is portuguese.

So "Hey ho, let's go!"
